Geez, I thought I was pretty smart --- I can manage my office IT, can troubleshoot some simple LINUX stuff, and have a nice home theater setup --- but I can't even get the simplest Tivo tricks to work on my new HR10-250.

Please...someone bash me and tell me I'm an idiot for not even being able to get the simple backdoor code and 30-sec skip to work. I can take it.

I did follow the instructions perfectly, for backdoor on the ouija-screen [3 0 BC  ] doesn't give me a confirmation at all and no new options, and S-P-S-3-0-S while watching a recorded show doesn't give me a confirmation nor the 30-sec skip function on the skip-to-end key.

NOTE: New/unmodified HR10-250 installed and working and showing proper 3.1.5f version on Wednesday. Somebody slap me upside the head and tell me where I went wrong?

If you are viewing a program with 5.1 audio, you will not hear any tivo sound effects, including confirmation dings. After you enter the code, try 30 dec skip and see if it works.

If you're not watching a 5.1 program, then I don't know.

That backdoor code only works on 3.0 level software, you are running 3.1. The backdoor code for 3.1 is unknown...you can't turn on backdoors on a HR-10 without hacking.

Make sure you enter the Select, Play, Select, 3, 0, Select while watching a recording. If you do it while watching live TV, the TiVo swallows the 30 as a channel change.

EDIT: Oops, I see you say you ARE doing it during a recording...try it again, slowly - maybe the TiVo is missing one of the key presses.

Thanks guys.
I did forget about the 'no-sound on 5.1' limitation.
Maybe I was pressing the keys too quickly. I will try it slowly when I get home tonight.
