I read a while back that Comcast and Tivo had made a deal to offer Tivo's interface through Comcast's cable packages.

Does anyone know if this is still going to happen, and if so, when?

I am curious because the package that Comcast is offering me requires me to have their DVR, but I know I cannot run my Tivo box through theirs. So, I am going to pay for an extra regular cable box to be able to still have Tivo.

Thanks!
Kris

I believe they are expecting that for sometime in 07. Don't qoute me on this because I don't know the whole scoop but Comcast's DVR will definetly be running Tivo software in the future.

I belive you are more likely to see the Comcast TiVo later this year. Some posts on this and other forums put is as early as this month but I suspect that is optomistic. I reckon the timeline is likely to be between now and september in line with the actual TiVo S3.

I've seen unsubstatiated postings saying it is currently in Beta in some areas and Comcast themselves told me July many months ago though I have nothing to support this as it was a conversation.

Thanks for the responses.

We are moving, and I toyed with getting a dish, but read about the "screen saver problem" with Dish Network and wonderd if somethng similar would happen with DirecTV. So, I called Comcast and said with the move, I was thinking of getting a dish and they offered me a great deal to stay. The only catch was I had to have use their DVR to get the deal. I asked if I could use one of my existing digital cable boxes so I could use Tivo and they said I had to use their box. So, it seems like they are still trying to play the proprietary game on DVR's, which makes me wonder how soon this will happen. Hopefully they can make it happen soon!

Any thoughts on this...if you use Comcast DVR, will it be able to be home networked like you can with the Series2? Think they (Com) will offer a new DVR that will allow networking?

The first appearance of Tivo on Comcast will be on the Motorola boxes, IIRC. My guess is that Comcast will do a basic rollout first then lease upgrades like networking.

As is, the 6412 is pretty crippled as a DVR, with only 12 hrs of HD storage. I will probably keep a HD STB around for things like OnDemand and PPV, but as soon as the Series 3 is out, the 6412 is going back to Comcast.
