I have a Tivo Series 2 with lifetime service. I noticed that Tivo has a promotion to transfer my lifetime service to their new Series 3 (HD, of course).
I don't have an HD TV nor do I intend to purchase one in the next year or so.
I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade to a series 3 box. I'm wondering if Tivo will ever offer a similar promotion.
Any thoughts?

esilbe1;
I guess you have to decide if having a Series 3 TiVo with lifetime is worth $850+/- to you or not. Personally I have decided not to purchase one - but I get my TV form OTA and satellite, if you have cable it might be easier to justify the purchase. The setup I have know will work fine for 2 more years with tech changing so fast I just couldn't justify purchasing a HD DVR until I have a HDTV which may not happen for several years. Even when I go HD because I have to use satellite I may end up with a satellite providers HD DVR anyway.
Good Luck,

i have a series 2 w/ lifteime and an HD tv (just because i had to buy one last year and thought why not?) but am not yet buying a series 3. there aren't enough HD stations via my comcast to make it worth it yet. and, i'm actually fine with the way things are now.
by the time i'm not satisfied, i figure the prices will be lower, options will be greater, and i don't want to spend all that money just because there's a deadline.

I don't have a HD TV or cable, but I got a S3 and transferred lifetime from my S2. I like the dual tuners and the OTA HD shows look a lot better on my screen than with the S2. It's a luxury, but has been worth it for me.

The link says the Series 3 must be purchased by 1/31/2007. If you order online with someone besides TiVo is the purchase date the day you order it, the day they charge your credit card, or the day you receive it?

Hi:
Do you have a cable box with DVR capability in your area?
I had two Tivos, both with lifetime subs, and decided to sell one of them when I bought my HDTV and use my comcast cable HD and DVR with my new tv.
Although it is NOT Tivo, it is nice to be able to record two shows at once and two watch live TV.
I got about $250 for my Tivo, (including a wireless adapter I threw in), so I figured, that will cover the extra few dollars per month for the Comcast DVR functionality for more than two-three years. By then, who knows technology I might want/need?
If you don't intend to get an HDTV in the near future, why wouldn't you just keep your S2 for now? Do you plan on getting HDTV and PLAN on using Tivo (instead of a cable co's DVR)?
Are you just trying to "take advantage" of Tivo's deal right now? It makes sense, if you have the money, but it seems that you might have many more other options when you're ready for HD.
Just my two cents.
