TAA,
As you can see from the above posts many of us don't believe you can't buy a new TiVo and get a rebate. If you would care to provide more details maybe someone can give you better info.
Good Luck,

Rebate not available to me
Why do you say that? Because you're wrong. Rebates are available on new service on a box, it doesn't mean that you can't have had a Tivo before. It means that you can't transfer the service off of your broken box, but have to cancel it and activate your replacement.
I highly recommend finding out what you are talking about before posting any more misinformed rants.

Here also is the supersecret site for fixing your current TiVo
Most Likely you just need to replace the Hard Drive (http://store.tivocommunity.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=EA&Category_Code=UPS2S)
You can call in to customer service as well. If you are nice they tend to be fairly helpful for someone who has a TiVo that stopped working.
to all,
I think the poster is speaking about the fact that to use the Mail in rebate he would have to start a new subscription and agree to a 3 year comittment to get the rate he is paying now.

Rebate not available to me :mad:Based on this timeline and the fact that I've been a member since 2000 they should be paying me to stay with them. What do you want them to do for you?
Why am I not surprised that he just signed up to post this?
He should have come onto this site asking for help with his inop TiVo. What seems to be the problem? There is an entire site willing to help. Really, we want to help.
Does it power up? Did you drop it in your bathtub? Have you tried changing your batteries in the remote? Did the cleaning lady unplug the electric cord? Is the cable box on? Has the cat pooped into the vent hole?
Give us more info instead of a rant and we will try to help.

You need to clarify the no rebate for you deal.
If that is indeed true by some circumstance, you should be able to fix yours or even pick up a used S2 on the cheap. With all the promotions the re-sale value of a non-lifetimed S2 is nearly nothing.
S2s should be piling up as the VIP transfer 1 yr pre-pays run out of steam. Later this year there will likely be a flood of S2s for sale on the cheap.
I have 3 of 'em. I'm not sure how many I'm going to keep around when the pre-pays runout. If I don't get the 6.95 MSD rate I'll have three doorstops.
:p Sorry to have intruded into your community..... to give more info as requested....I pay $6.95 a month. In order to get rebate, I would have to cancel and sign-up for new contract at much higher price. I have realized since my post it is more cost effective to pay full price and keep my 6.95 subscription. And as a psychologist, I am intrigued by your responses....

So you lied when you said that the rebate wasn't available to you. You knew full well that it was available to you, but the terms were simply not to your liking. Did you really expect to get sympathy by lying to people who actually know how theses things work? You claim to be a psychologist (yeah right). What did you really expect to happen as a result of your poor attempt at deception? Is this behavior something you learned from your overbearing mother or your emotionally absent father? How do you feel about your actions now?

How do you only pay $6.95 a month? Either you have another qualifying until that gives you MSD (and you can still buy a new box, get the rebate and the MSD and keep paying $6.95) or you got offered the $6.95 rate when you called to cancel. Since you're willing to but new hardware and commit to a new contract, why should Tivo keep giving you that rate?
I won't go so far as mick to call you a liar, but there are some significant holes in your story...

There really isn't anything to be confused about - you came in and complained about something that you knew to be untrue. The only thing that I'm confused about is why you expect Tivo to give you a special retention rate on the activation of new hardware.

We are a very helpful bunch of folks.
However, in order to help, we need information. As a psychologist, you should know this :D .
You claimed that no rebates were available to you. Later, you provided information and the community debunked what you stated.
You claimed to have been a Tivo customer for 3 years. Why do they OWE you discounted gear? Last time I checked, Tivo was still losing money. Personally, I wish they just pric the thing and a resonable profit and not charge a monthly fee. The guide data comes from Tribune (I think) so why should we pay Tivo? Their cost model is simalr to getting a discounted cell phone in exchange for a 2 year contract with ETF. When your 2 years is up, you could keep using the phone or buy another one. If you get a free or discounted product, you commit to a contract.
I prefer not to have a contract on any service as you get stuck when service deteriorates or you need to cancel for other reasons. I'm in this situation with my SBC Yahoo DSL. I want to try the HSI From Time Warner for 3 or 6 months, but SBC wants a $99 ETF on a $14.99 a month service that ends on 6/22/07.
Back to the point, Tivo is trying to find the right pricepoint for the monthly service and the device that they sell. The S3 HDTV unit is PROBABLE the only unit they make any money on (I am probable wrong), PLUS they get monthly revenue from it (pre-pay or post-pay).

What's the average pay for a psychologist per hour? In all fairness, he might be working for a state agency or something, salt of the earth type of guy and all, you know, a regular humanitarian. Maybe TiVo should just give him a break and let him pay less.

A good rule of thumb when coming here to post about a problem (especially for newcomers, but it also goes for oldtimers) is to include all relevant details in the opening post, and post clearly what the problem is, giving whatever background would be helpful to people who want to reply.
After all, I assume the goal of posting problems here is to get a solution to your problem, and the best way to get a solution is to make a clearly worded, complete opening post that fully describes the problem.
Frankly, this OP fell sadly short of that. :o
I don't know about you, but when I post my problems here, I generally am hoping to get useful responses.
