So, I just noticed this, dunno how long it's been in there, but if I fast forward over commercials say at twice fast forward speed, and one of the commercials has a thumbs up, i hear a ding.. How new is that?

I think it started with the current software update. I use the 30 second skip except at the end of a show to find the preview of the next episode. Occassionally I hear then when I fast forward instead of skipping and previews of another show are on. Now it is only on CBS now.
Does this ding bother you? I've never done a "thumbs up" to record a show this way so I don't know how it works.
I assume it works both on live and recorded shows. Anybody have any experience with this way to record?

Haven't heard a ding yet. Is it as loud as the normal fast forward sound? Is it a sound they have reused from an existing event, or a new sound?
They sure seem to be trying to get our attention...seems like this is all a progression toward an auto-stopping of the FF when it hits a paid ad (worst case scenario, I hope). I guess luckily I don't see many paid ads on the shows I've tivo'd.

The ding isn't very loud. You might miss it if you are not listening for it. I don't fast forward enough to know about the FF sound--I use the 30 second skip a lot more. I just started FFing to the next weeks show preview recently. It's in the preview of coming shows on CBS that have the "Thumbs Up" symbol in the upper righthand corner in with the ads. There is no ding on the 30 second skip that I have heard--only during FF.

Being discussed here previously (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=374076).
FWIW...we have yet to hear it!

Glad to know I'm not going crazy. I've heard it twice now. I tried to replicate it and wasn't able to though.
