I have heard lots of good stuff recently about this Mad Men show on AMC. But I can't find anything in my DirecTV guide data to record/watch the show. If it is such a great show how come AMC doesn't show it more? Are they holding back re-runs to so they can put our a DVD set? It seems that every other cable network that has a successful series plays reruns to death, but I guess not AMC.

The previous season just ended in late October, so it seems kind of early to start airing reruns of it. It's a given they'll do a marathon of season 2 before the next season begins, whenever that is (next July, maybe?) Both seasons are on iTunes if you really need to see it now, and Amazon VOD has season 1. For what it's worth, I thought season two was better than the first.

Makes sense. Thanks for the heads up on iTunes. I won't go through too many extraordinary measures to watch this show, if I do I will probably have too high of expectations. I guess i'll just wait for a marathon.

It's a great show, but it's very different that the standard fare. Much more character driven than plot driven. The writers and directors don't beat you over the head with things. If you catch things, great. But if not, you might be lost. It's got a lot more artistry than what you'd find on the broadcast networks, IMO.

IF it returns for another season. AMC would be foolish not to work out an agreement, but, as of right now, the principals in the show are NOT under contract for another season. Hamm himself will command top dollar give the awards it's won and is up for again with the Golden Globes.

It's going to be hard to demand top dollar for a show that no one watches on a network no one has heard of.
In a perfect world, Mad Men would be a top ten show. I just hope they can keep making it.

The buzz it generates is worth way more than you would think. AMC loves the prestige this show brings. That affects the bottom line is ways other than just how much ad revenue the show generates. Plus with Hamm on the upswing along with January Jones, Christina Fredericks, et al, this show goes nowhere but up in ratings if it comes back.
