I use cable (chs 2-13) to see the local stations and Dish satellite for the other channels. I want my Tivo to receive both the cable channels and the sat channels. As I recall the last time I set up my Tivo to work with a satellite receiver it received the output of the sat receiver on ch 3 or 4. This will not work with my current set-up since both chs 3 & 4 have cable channels on them. My sat receiver is fed to TVs around the house on ch-17. Is there any way I can set my Tivo to tune in (and control) the sat receiver on ch-17 instead of ch. 3 or 4? Use of A/V inputs is not feasible.

ok i've read most of the threads that are similar to this; but not found this problem.

I installed TD 2.8 (or whatever the latest one is) and before it opens i get "service is not running" and it tells me to go into services and "re-enable"; however "re-enable" is not an option. So i assume that they mean "start" the service. well i started it and re-started the computer. when it came back on same message "service is not running".
I uninstalled it and did the same thing again, (oh and the Tivo Beacon is started) but when i click the icon or select it from the program files i keep getting the message "service not running"

New HD Unit Restarting - What to look for?

I'm a TiVo newb (11/16/09), but an advanced A/V user looking for some guidance on what I should be checking to diagnose why my TiVo reset (I believe that's the term used when the system displays the "Welcome - powering up" message) 4 times within 2 hours after installing it, and once the following day - which concerns me from a reliablity standpoint.

Setup basics: New TiVo HD unit, no ext HD, TiVo USB wireless adapter (Comcast HSI Broadband, signal 80%), one M-CableCARD (signal level 100%), No suggestions, No Kidzone, initial S/W ver. 8.1.7c2-01-2-652, S/W updated to ver. 11.0D-01-2-652 on 11/19/09. The installation and setup was straightforward and no errors or problems were encountered.

With the easy setup, I was unprepared for what happened later that day. After 5 hours of service, the TiVo reset for no apparent reason 4 times in a 2 hour period - once while I was on the phone with TiVo tech support.

One suggestion made by tech support was to move the TiVo power plug from my PureAV power conditioning unit and plug it directly into the wall outlet. Having done that, no reset was seen for about 24 hours. Then later the next day a reset happened, without any noticible home power fluctuations.

Even though I have a case registered with TiVo support, I'd like to know what parameters I should monitor (or actions to take) to determine the cause for these resets, and to know when it might be appropriate to have the unit replaced (which I'd rather not do without good cause). I did read one lengthy topic that discussed "kickstarts", but I felt that trying them might be a bit premature in my case.

FWIW, in the past two days there has been no observed reset.

Thoughts....?

made a previous thread about precursors to this problem here:

http://tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=437427

Now I have the official tivo brand wireless adapter and its not working. My unit does not start with it plugged in, it will just hang indefinitely on the almost there screen. When I plug it in I have about 10 seconds until the unit freezes with whatever is on the screen and becomes unresponsive indefinitely. If I do not plug the adapter in the tivo unit will work fine. This is driving me nuts.

I just got off the phone with Tivo and they let me know about a problem they have seen for the past week. My tivo hung and needed to be rebooted and when it came backonline it said it would only partially work until I activated the tivo. I was able to watch recorded shows and go through the menus but I could not watch live tv. I also was not able to connect to tivo, but I had an IP address.

Tivo said this is a problem with Tivos that have lifetime service only. They had me try the following steps and it fixed the problem.

Tivo Central - Message and Settings - Restart or Reset System - Clear Thumb Ratings & Suggestions.

Tivo rebooted and then worked. Hope this helps

My tivo is showing FX on the channel that should be ESPN. I have a number of other channel issues but this is the one I'll focus on. I called Comcast (3 times) and swapped out my CableCARD. It has been reset twice. My tivo is a Series 3 HD DVR with with the add on HD. The signal strength is fine. My Comcast DVR downstairs shows channel 173 (ESPN HD) just fine. so It's not a signal issue. Having replaced the CableCARD, it's unlikely to be the CableCARD that is causing the problem. Some channels are coming in just fine on the channel number that they are supposed to be on. Some channels aren't coming in at all (like 31 - ESPN non HD, 66, 67). HBO is coming in fine at 547 and FX HD (665) is showing FX like it should. I thought about doing a channel scan but not an option with a CabekCARD. Any suggestions? I looked at "wrong program information" from "nachoguy50" but he didn't think his problem was with his Tivo and I didn't want my comments to end up on a dead thread. I think my problem is with my Tivo. Signal strength would cause channels to move around, I've seen the behavior on two cards and my comcast DVR is running fine.

I checked Tivo Support again, checked the OOB - it was fine, "Channel List Received: No" so I called Comcast again. The tech didn't know what I was talking about but after a half hour, we decided to have a tech come out to the house. Still interested in any suggestions.

Greetings

Since this is my first post a brief history. I have been using a TIVO series one since 2001. Never had one problem, always a fan. Then I lost my (Qwest) cable and because of the TV broadcast change it was rendered useless. I did not want anything to do with COX cable or satellite TV.

So about three months ago I get a new HD Tivo. The first unit kept crashing every 3 or 4 hours the green light flashing. So TIVO told me to exchange it for a new one which I did. I have it only for OTA high def channels using an indoor antenna. It is hooked up to a high def TV via HDMI cable and I have the audio hooked up to my surround sound stereo via optical cable. It was hooked up to my phone. This setup worked flawlessly.

Then I got Qwest DSL (1.5 m) and my visiting brother hooked up to my modem and told me it was fast enough for Netflix. So that got me to thinking about hooking up my TIVO to the internet.

So I got the TIVO wireless G adapter and hooked up my unit to the internet. It connected to the service successfully and after a few hiccups the Video on Demand feature became active. I was able to set up my Netflix account and can see my netflix queue. I can also view utube videos and have watched some netflix movies.

So here is the problems. When I play a utube video the screen goes blank and my TV displays "Searching for Signals." This lasts for a second then the screen comes back. This will happen if I replay or rewind the utube video. Then when I exit Video on Demand the strange behavior follows. When switching to live TV the screen goes blank and I get "Searching for Signals" for a second then screen comes back. Try to rewind same thing. It does it also while navigating selections at TIVO central. All the while this happens I still have audio. Only video is affected. This behavior also happens after watching Netflix as well, only not every time.

The only fix to this is to re-boot which does get rid of the behavior but it is annoying having to do this and I'm afraid to use Video on Demand anymore cause I don't know what damage it could be doing. I called TIVO support but the only advice they had was to replace the wireless adapter which I did but I still have the same issue.

Anyway sorry this is long but I thought the more information the better. I'm at the point of just buying a ROKU for netflix but I thought maybe there was an answer out there.

Thanks so much for any ideas

FOX TV shows jump to fullscreen?

I've noticed this for the last few weeks, but I don't know anyone local with a Tivo that I can ask. On House, Fringe, Lie to Me, and other night time FOX shows, roughly 1/2 of the way through a show, it jumps from widescreen to fullscreen, usually accompanied by a brief audio glitch. Sometimes it jumps back to widescreen later and then jumps back, but it always seems to happen first around the 1/2 mark. I have a Series 2 Tivo, entirely stock, non-hd. Comcast cable standard, no set-top box -- the Tivo is plugged directly into the cable jack. My TV is a non-hd unit. I'm in the SW Florida market.
Has anyone else noticed this?

I understand that multiroom viewing requires two Tivo's on the same network and same account.
